Responsible and Sustainable Tourism

At Bhutan Green Travel, we believe that responsible tourism is integral to protecting and conserving the natural environment, local cultures and ways of life, and contribute to stronger local economies and a better quality of life for local people. So we are aware that the effects tourism can have both positive and negative impact on the environment. Whilst providing better holiday experiences for our guests, we also take responsibility for ensuring sustainable tourism, by carefully choosing our hotels, transportation, and activities in a way that helps preserve the destination and benefits everyone involved.

While carrying out our work as tour operator, BGT is committed to responsible tourism and true sustainability by recognizing the following common responsibilities:

  • Minimise negative environmental, economic, and socio-cultural impacts
  • Inform good practice to encourage and spread sustainable tourism
  • Respect local cultures, traditions, religions and heritage
  • Ask permission before taking photographs of local people
  • Involve local people in decisions that affect their lives and life changes
  • Generate greater economic benefits for local people
  • Make positive contributions to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage
  • Improve working conditions
  • Provide more enjoyable experiences for tourists through more meaningful connections with local people
  • Clean up our campsites before leaving and carrying our waste items to appropriate disposal facilities
  • Turn down/off the heating and air-conditioning at your hotel when not required
  • Avoid buying any products made from endangered plants and wild animals
