Who We Are

Bhutan Green Travel (BGT) is a licensed tour operator registered with the Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB), bearing licence number 1026720, and also a member of the Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators (ABTO).

Inspired by Bhutan’s unique policy of “high value, low impact” tourism, BGT was founded in 2011. It is a privately owned company that prides itself in providing out-of-the-ordinary experiences and off-the-beaten-track holidays. In our eleven years of operation we have specialised in tailor-made holidays for independent and group travellers from around the world.

Ugyen Rinzin is the founder and managing director of the company. Prior to founding BGT, Ugyen was a civil servant for over a decade looking after the budgeting of the Tourism Council of Bhutan (National Tourist Board). Following his graduation in the UK, he also worked in various accounting roles and in 5 star hotel in London. He has well travelled internationally and lives in both Bhutan and London.

Whether it’s discovering Bhutan’s most iconic sight of Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang) or a life-changing experience that inspires, from trekking in the wilderness to travelling to seldom visited places, we will happily design an itinerary to suit your interests and budget. We focus on crafting an itinerary that will help you enjoy Bhutan’s authenticity, remoteness, natural environment and its age-old cultural heritage.

Our team is our strength. Our guides and staff are fluent in English. They have been carefully selected for their expert knowledge and experiences to help you discover Bhutan and make every day of your holiday a special moment. Friendly, professional and knowledgeable, our team is dedicated to ensuring you enjoy your journey to the fullest. When you choose to travel with BGT, your holiday starts right away. We take care of all requirements, carefully planning each itinerary leaving nothing to chance.

BGT is built on the philosophy of offering high quality trips for discerning travellers, looking for authentic experiences. Our exotic itineraries include heritage and cultural places, colourful festivals, trekking, hiking, walking, bird watching, honeymoon and other special interests, all of which have been improved over the years through customer feedback. Whatever you are interested in, BGT offers the best value for your holidays.

We deal with typically small groups. Therefore, we are able to provide personalized service and support. This further allows for greater flexibility with bookings and travel arrangements.

The online guide Travel Lemming, read annually by 6 million travellers, on 15 November 2022 revealed its annual list of the 50 best places to travel globally for 2023. Bhutan has been named the best place to travel in Asia next year, and the number two overall spot in the world.

In March 2018, Bhutan also won the first place for the Earth Award at a ceremony in ITB Berlin (Internationale Tourismusbörse Berlin), Germany at the world’s leading travel trade show. The award program initiated by ITB Berlin, Green Destinations and TravelMole’s Vision on Sustainable Tourism, is to recognize and appreciate tourism destinations that work toward managing “over tourism” and their commitment in responsible and sustainable tourism development including green destinations.
